In June 2018, Lightsource BP and planning consultancy Urbis hosted a community information event in Winton, Victoria, to outline their proposal to fund, develop and operate a 15MW solar installation on 28 hectares of land at 116 Lee Road. As with every single Lightsource BP solar development, we’re dedicated to making sure that our planned project is suitable for and supported by the local community.

With that in mind, the purpose of the community information event was to allow locals of Winton, Benalla and surrounding areas to come together and meet with the solar experts from Lightsource BP. We revealed the plans for the installation, and listened carefully to the responses from the interested neighbours, which were then taken into account for the final designs.

The proposed solar farm would generate clean and renewable energy that would power 2,330 local homes, saving 21,582 tonnes of carbon emissions every year, the equivalent of taking 4,621 cars off the roads.

As well as generating clean energy, Lightsource BP solar installations are designed so that they allow for maximum use of the land for agricultural purposes during operation. The project team will be working with local interest groups to ensure that environmental values of the land are recognised and where possible, enhanced. Lightsource BP is also eager to hear from wildlife enthusiasts or local schools who may be interested in playing a role in the ongoing monitoring of wildlife on the site.
