Lightsource bp is working on a proposal for a solar farm in Wrexham on land at the Plas Power Estate and are presenting the plans to the local community. We will fund the development of the Plas Power Solar Farm, which will be connected to the local electricity network at the Legacy substation.

The proposal involves Lightsource bp funding the development of a solar installation that will have an output power capacity of 80MWp (Megawatts), enough renewable energy to power 22,222 homes for a year. The solar energy produced will save 22,991 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. The equivalent to taking 12,678 fuel-burning cars off the roads or enough clean electricity to power 53,128 Electric Vehicles per year.

We’re in the early stages of this project and are sharing our plans with local residents and the surrounding community to gather their feedback on the land we have identified. Following this engagement, we will conclude a range of detailed assessments, before undertaking the statutory pre submission consultation.

Safety is one of our core values, and in order to keep to the standards of community engagement that we’ve set as a company in the current global situation, we’ve replaced our physical community consultation with a virtual event which took place on 21st October 2021, in the form of a video presentation which can be viewed below, and live Q&A session. Before the event, we sent a press release to the local paper, and an information leaflet was posted to nearby residents.

Please submit any enquiries about this project using the form at the bottom of the page.

Feel free to take a look at the Plas Power information leaflet below.

Our proposal

We’re still in the early stages, and our plans will evolve based on local input and the results of our ecological, landscape and heritage assessments as well as other considerations. If you have any thoughts on our current plans, we would like to hear from you. We would also like to hear from local businesses and companies who may be interested in providing services as part of the construction and operation of the site.
