The Lightsource BP North America executive team has decades of experience in the US solar market and a proven track record in developing, financing, constructing and operating utility-scale solar and storage projects. The leadership team has negotiated and developed over a Gigawatt of solar pipeline and driven the commercialization of energy storage in the US market. The team looks at new ways to utilize cutting edge technologies and financial solutions that help more Americans benefit from solar’s potential.
Kevin has over 30 years of experience in conventional and renewable energy sectors, building projects in more than a dozen countries across five continents. Prior to joining Lightsource BP, he was CEO and one of the founding executives at California-based SolarReserve, where he drove the company’s global expansion and commercialization of their proprietary solar energy storage technology. He previously served in senior executive positions at Invenergy LLC, Insight Energy, Rolls-Royce Power Ventures, and Indeck Energy Services. Kevin earned his MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago and his Mechanical Engineering degree from Purdue University.
Kevin, who brings on board over 15 years of senior management experience in the US solar sector, says Lightsource BP’s entrepreneurial, innovative spirit inspired him to join. He oversees the development, construction and operation of solar farm projects in North America. Previously, Kevin was co-founder of utility-scale PV developer Axio Power, helping to build the company from a lean start-up to a major utility-scale player, going on to lead portfolio development and plant operations & maintenance with SunEdison.
Emilie brings broad energy industry experience to Lightsource BP. Emilie has over 8 years of experience in power markets and energy policy, on both the buy and sell side of solar, storage, and distributed energy resources (DERs), as well as experience with generation and electric system operations and utility rate design, which is complemented by her background in technology development and process engineering. Prior to Lightsource BP, Emilie worked at Pacific Gas and Electric (“PG&E”), GE Renewable Energy, Corning, and Intel Corporation. Emilie has received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, as well as a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Environmental Management from Duke University.
Stephen brings 25+ years of experience developing high performing teams to deliver complex projects to Lightsource BP, meaning he is perfectly placed to take on the role of Vice President of Projects and Construction. Stephen is an accomplished construction and energy industry executive with two decades of commercial construction and general contracting experience. Prior to joining Lightsource BP, Stephen held roles at SunPower and Origis Energy and contributed to the completion of 2GW of projects across both North and South America. He has a strong track record developing and implementing financial, schedule and risk management project controls systems required to design, engineer and construct complex technical projects.
Omar has over 15 years of experience in the US electricity and energy markets. During his extensive career, Omar has personally overseen the execution of over 10,000MW in interconnection agreements for renewable projects across the US. He has a deep understanding of interconnection and transmission including market risk, PROMOD modeling and RTO/FERC regulatory policies. Prior to joining Lightsource BP, Omar was the Sr. Director of Transmission Strategy at EDF Renewables responsible for managing all national aspects and issues related to transmission for EDF Renewable Energy’s wind and solar pipeline of projects. He has previously held transmission planning roles with Terra-Gen Power, RES Americas, Public Service Company of Colorado, and Exponential Engineering Company.
Christopher brings with him over 25 years of experience as an attorney and developer in the environmental and renewable energy sectors. He is a former law firm corporate, real estate and land use counsel, with extensive expertise in combined legal, development, real estate and engineering. Prior to joining Lightsource BP, Christopher held roles at Hm Renewable Energy, G Electronics and Abengoa Solar, and has been involved in the origination, development, financing, and construction of over 3GW of renewable energy projects. He is a licensed attorney and real estate broker and received his J.D. in Environmental Law from the University of California Berkeley and his Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Resources Planning and Interpretation from Humboldt State University.
David has over 20 years of experience as a corporate and transactional attorney, the last 10 of which have been focused in the U.S. solar and storage markets. Prior to joining Lightsource BP, David was a partner at Alston & Bird LLP and previously worked as the director of development for a small solar company in southern California. David attended college at Yale, law school at Stanford, and has a PhD in economics from UC Berkeley. David has closed hundreds of transactions of all sizes and provides a commercial focus to enhance the rapid growth and development of Lightsource BP.
Simms leads the Project Finance function throughout the Americas. He has over 10 years of experience in senior positions in the solar industry including Vice President of Project Finance for Hanwha Q CELLS (now 174 Power Global) and Managing Director of Corporate Development at Applied Materials. Most recently, at a solar and storage startup, Simms led the industry’s first arm’s length financing of an integrated solar and storage Power Purchase Agreement project with a Tier-1 infrastructure investor. Before beginning his business career, Simms flew carrier-based jets for the US Navy. Simms holds an MBA from Stanford University and a BS and MS in Aerospace Engineering from the US Naval Academy.
