In November 2018, Lightsource BP signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Sacramento Municipal Utilities Division (SMUD), one of the largest publicly-owned utility companies in the United States. This agreement will allow SMUD to power the northern California communities with clean, renewable electricity for the next 25 years.
The site, which is known as Wildflower Solar I, has a capacity of roughly 16 MW, and will generate enough sustainable electricity to cover the annual electricity needs of 2,624 houses. Wildflower Solar I will be located within SMUD’s territory and will support SMUD’s popular community solar program, SolarShares, as well as meeting growing consumer demand for clean energy and locally-sited solar. Additionally, SMUD and Lightsource BP are currently exploring the addition of energy storage to the PV system.
